Kindergarten and Nursery Schools

Kindergartens are designed for pre-school children aged 3 through 5. There are private and public kindergartens in Chiyoda City. Foreign children who want to enroll in public kindergartens need to be registered as foreign residents of Chiyoda City. If children are enrolled in private kindergartens in Chiyoda, their legal custodians are entitled to receive subsidies from the city office. Public kindergarten expenses can be reduced or exempted.
Nursery schools are designed for pre-school children who cannot be taken care of during the daytime, and thus differ from kindergartens as stipulated in the School Education Act of Japan. Pre-school children from the age of 0 are eligible to enroll in nursery schools.
